p h o t o b o o t h : onlineWindows Live Space for UK Indie Rock Band Photobooth March 19 Happy anniversary ...Hey,
Well, it's been nearly a year since the last blog and that's due to my enormous laziness !
Ah well. It's actually been quite an interesting few months for the band. After a successful start to 2007, we waved goodbye to Nige over the summer as he embarked on the more demanding role of being a new Dad.
The rest of us had a few weeks of looking at each other and wondering where to go next before we decided to go on with the new leaner photobooth line-up. So, there's no bass now and we're having to push ourselves much more, be more creative and challenge ourselves musically. As a result, we're working on a whole brand spanking new set of songs, some of which we previewed live just last month. The photobooth sound has developed and become more uncompromising as a result, we've decided that we're going to play what we like and if other people enjoy it then it's a bonus. It's a conscious move away from some of our more crowd-pleasing songs of the past. Don't get me wrong, I still think we're writing catchy, listener friendly songs, but the detail is much more interesting. We're allowing more space where previously we'd fill it, just because it sounds more interesting that way. "More interesting" is certainly the catchphrase for the band at the moment, and the resultant songs are probably going to be a bit more like marmite to our audiences ... love it or hate it, but it will be "more interesting".
Three piece? Sweet ! April 13 Unlucky for some ...I haven't blogged for a while ... it's my new medical condition "blogstipation".
So, how are you all ? I imagine you're all sat there glued to your screens, riveted by the pearls of wisdom that I have to share with you today. Or, more likely, probably just wondering how you ended up here when you were searching for something else. The glory of the web, you can meander around for hours on end, reading useless blogs for example, when you really need to find out about something else.
Things have been a bit odd for the band recently and as a result the new recordings have been delayed. It can't be helped, we've been evicted from our regular practice spot because they are refurbishing (probably into a trendy wine bar) and want to actually earn some money from their vast function room. Can't blaim them, but it has meant we've been a bit unsettled. Just like on 'The littlest hobo', we've been scouring the area for a new home to call our own and have tried out a couple of studios, practice rooms and even church halls. But, the good news is that the songs we're going to record are sounding great, with some really catchy hooks in them. I know you're going to like the songs, we have a very new one provisionally called 'is your love like that' that I think is going to be one that you're all going to be humming to yourselves.
So, I haven't got much to say other than it's Friday the 13th today, which some people think is unlucky. I'm not the superstitious type (touch wood), but it was weird how foggy it was this morning ... wooooo ! (that woo was supposed to sound spooky, but I'm not sure how it comes across in type).
Anyway, have fun and hopefully I'll be along shortly with another blog (and maybe some new tunes for you to download).
Love,
Steve
PS. I've added Media Player to my site and it should be playing the video for 'Million Miles' just to keep you entertained a little while longer - Comments welcomed !
February 12 Now see this !So, it's been a little while since my last blog entry, but I've delayed it on purpose (such a tease!) because there's actually some band news to give you.
The full edited version of the video for 'a million miles of string' has been unleased on the world and you can watch it on YouTube (although the quality is suitably reduced compared to the crystal clear DVD version). Here's the link:
I'd really appreciate some feedback, so let me know what you think. Same goes for the songs that we've got on this site. If you want more (and why wouldn't you?) you can always head to the "official" photobooth site ... www.photoboothonline.co.uk where there are mp3's galore !
We're holding fire on the gigs at the moment to focus on recording some new material. In the true spirit of independent music, we're going to do this all by ourselves. And why not. We know how to use the kit and what's more important is that we know how we want to sound. Watch this space for samples of our new recordings ! December 20 How's your 2006 been ?2006 has been fun and exciting, with loads of new experiences.
The band started the year gigging, getting out to some venues in towns we've not played before, which was pretty much our plan for the year. This year we played Warsop, Shirebrook, Leicester, Sutton, Grantham, Mansfield, Nottingham, Lincoln, Worksop and Leeds. Some of the smaller shows surprised us with a decent crowd and a good response, but I think my favourite gigs this year have been in Leeds. I don't know why but I always have a really positive feeling that it's going to be a good gig in Leeds and it usually is. The people we play for always seem to get what we do and the venues we've played have always been really well organised. I guess it's something to do with the bigger cities, because Nottingham is generally well organised, though I personally don't get the same positive vibe when we play there. Don't know why, and it's certainly not a criticism of Nottingham.
Probably the big milestone for the band this year has been making our first music video for "A Million Miles of String". The video came about after some of our songs were used on the soundtrack to an independent film called "20,000 Little Reasons". The film premiered in 2005 and the director (Andy Wilton) really liked our music and approached us to make a video. I'm really looking forward to seeing the results in the new year. So, as a band, we already have reasons to look forward to 2007.
2007 should also see us in the studio for our third recording. We've written some pretty decent new songs and gigged them a bit over the last few months. This was a conscious decision, because sometimes when we play a song live we develop it in directions we hadn't thought of before. I'm hoping we can capture the energy of our live performances, but put in some of those finer touches that you can only achieve in the studio ... extra instruments, over dubbing etc.
Hope you all have a brilliant Christmas and New Year !
Steve
September 20 Giving it all awayCheck it out, I've only gone and uploaded some photobooth MP3's for you to listen to and download for FREE !Yes, you can now listen away to what this band called photobooth has to offer and I hope you'll like it. I've put up 5 tracks, all of which were on the 'A Million Miles of String' EP which is our latest studio recording. The acoustic version of 'million miles' was played live on the radio, and we had such a good response to it that we managed to get a recording of the show and included it on the EP. I hope you enjoy the music, please feel free to give us your feedback ... not the squealy guitar noise, just e-mail me or something !! We've taken a bit of a break from gigs to write some new material, which is sounding pretty good. However, there are a couple of shows to tell you about. We're playing Lincoln, Leicester and Leeds before the end of the year. I've christened it the "L" tour, but playing places beginning with L was a happy coincidence rather than some fiendishly artistic statement. More information about where, when and how much will be on the official site very soon, www.photoboothonline.co.uk. So, like, how's my blogging ? Only my third one and I feel like a pro already. Tell me what you think of the site, the band etc and hey, be our friend (please). Laters Steve |
